I’m ready for some football action this Super Bowl 51 weekend—how about you?!
This Sunday, the world will sit back and watch the Atlanta Falcons try to dethrone the dynastic New England Patriots. I personally always find myself rooting for the underdog—as an executive coach, my thoughts are often aligned with the individuals looking to become great, not the ones who have already achieved glory.
This weekend, we will see two teams at the top of their game. One team who has been on top for what seems like a lifetime now. And the other team who has, in the span of two years, gone from “nowhere” to Super Bowl stardom.
Professional gamblers claim that the difference between the two teams this season is maybe a field goal. But, I’m not wondering what separates them, I want to know: what makes them similar? Is there a common theme that makes both these teams great?
Let’s take an analytical, coaching-style look at the situation…
The Patriots have used three different quarterbacks this year. They have recreated a roster from no-names and trades. And their coach, Bill Belichick, still works his talent to assemble a recipe that creates powerful results.
The Falcons have had talent for years. But two years ago this talent had a losing record. Enter Dan Quinn—his first year as head coach inspired a team that started a season at 7-0 before faltering, and then, through additional coaching, achieved a Super Bowl bid.
You see, talent alone is not enough to come out on top. But talent guided and honed with the right coach can strategically create opportunities that are greater than the parts.
Think about it…as a business leader, do you believe you have the talent to be great, but don’t have the right strategy or any strategy at all? Do you keep getting to a certain point, but can’t seem to break through to the next level?
Partnering with the right executive coach can transform you from average to a champion!
Take a look at yourself, get inspired by the game—whether your team wins or loses—and identify which goals define your own Super Bowl moment and how coaching can take you there. Everyone loves an underdog story!
